Going off-script, to us, means going further than usual. We prepare every shot, and that preparation is what gives us room on the day: to try one more take, to follow something that happens, to experiment until it is right. That is where the moment comes from that nobody wrote down, and why people remember the film.

I grew up on stage. As a kid I played the lead in Billy Elliot the Musical, and after that came theatre, television and commercials. Along the way I noticed I was more curious about what happened behind the camera than in front of it.
So I started making films, first the short films De Val and Paralysis. De Val played in cinemas and is used in schools. These days I make brand films and aftermovies for companies and events that want something real.
The performer in me is what clients notice most. I know what it is like when a lens points at you, and how quickly people freeze up. I give them time, direction and some calm, until they are simply themselves. That is where a good film starts.
Why film? Because nothing holds a feeling this well. A few honest seconds on the right music can still move a stranger years later. I get to make that for a living, and I hope I never get used to it.
